Highland Elementary School is this year’s winner of the Summer Reading Club traveling trophy. Each year the school with the highest percentage of students registering for and completing our Summer Reading Program is awarded a trophy. The trophy remains at the school for one year. Seventy per cent of the student population at Highland School registered for the Summer Reading Club and, of that number, 74 per cent completed the program.
This year, Tacky the Penguin, greeted by enthusiastic cheers and loud applause, deliveredthe trophy during an all-school assembly on August 31st. Skokie Mayor George Van Dusen and Cathy Maassen, coordinator of the Summer Reading Club, then presented the trophy to Leslie Gordon, Highland School principal.
